Artist Audrey Hernache (me!) in front of her graduating works 2021.
Hello and thank you for taking the time to find out about me!
I am an artist, I was born and grew up in Perth Western Australia. I met my husband in high school and we got married not long after returning from my first trip over seas (to Paris and London, both rich in the arts and history). I’ve always loved art and making things but it wasn’t until my early 20s that I decided I actually wanted to pursue it is as a career.
I completed a bachelor of arts degree majoring in visual arts in 2021(which took me longer then I originally planned due to having my children), which has gave me the chance to experience using different art forms and techniques and I learned invaluable lessons on how to communicate through the creation of art. I have experience in drawing, printmaking, painting, photography, studio and field work, ceramics and more. All of these had a continual focus on exploration across the mediums and research methods with an emphasis on developing work built on a relationship between the research and the making. Having the knowledge on how to use these techniques and tools in many ways has enriched my artistic practice by expanding my view on how to create and explore, keeping me constantly making and looking for new ways to express myself and understand the world around me. My university degree taught me to keep looking, to keep collecting inspiration and that art is a constant work in progress, that there are always things to add or improve. But it also taught me that art should always be shared and your community will be your most valuable asset in developing concepts and communicating ideas, everyone will always have an opinion, contribution or a different way of seeing - which can provide valuable insight into a project I may not have thought of.
During my journey,
I have also become a mother three times over, this has been a life changing path I have ventured and as such a lot of my work has morphed into projects exploring this. Womanhood and motherhood are experiences that all or most women go through, even though we experience this journey mostly alone we share in the knowledge that we are all going through the same story (obviously with variations taking into account; the change in times, race, difficult relationships, trauma) I look forward to continuing my explorations into the subject and sharing these with you.
Another major part of my process is in the meditative and intuitive process of creating Mandalas. Drawing out these designs has helped me learn to let go and just loose myself in the act of creating and find my flow. Creating without any plan predetermined has taught me to trust myself in my creative practice and to let go of the everyday clutter we carry around with us through the day.
